We are from the midwest and NEED to break up the long winters here. What month would be better January or February? Also, which island has the best beaches? Any advice on how to find cheap flights or cheaper lodging? Thanks! My BF and I were wanting to plan a trip to Hawaii for about a week in January or February. Some advice please?
Jan/Feb won't really matter weather-wise, but it is the winter season (if you can call it that) down there too, so if you have exceptionally bad luck, you could get rain (but it will be a warm rain!).
You will probably get cheaper flights to Oahu but I personally would recommend Maui or the ';Big Island'; of Hawaii. If you go to the ';big island';, stay on the Kona side of the island as it is going to be warmer and drier.
Try to look for package deals if possible which bundle car, airfare and hotel/condo. A Condo is a better deal since you can cook your own meals and save some money that way.
You might try looking at Pleasant Holidays website as a start for bundle deals.
Don't be afraid to ask about specific properties or hotels. My BF and I were wanting to plan a trip to Hawaii for about a week in January or February. Some advice please?
Hello,
January and February are extremelly similar in terms of weather throughout Hawaii. As for which island has the best beaches, it should be noted that each island has its own charming beach settings, though the Big Island has more, as well as more to do in general.
For more information, I would visit

You should find a variety of packages that will help highlight exactly what there is to do on the different islands.
Hope this helps.
Hi! I live in the midwest too; near st.louis. My hubby %26amp; I traveled to Hawaii the last week of Feb into the first weekend of March i 08. It was a perfect time to get away. It iced and snowed so bad on Thursday that Lambert canceled like 200 flights. Thankfully when we flew out on Friday morning it was just starting to freezing rain again %26amp; they de-iced our plane like 3 times before we took off. So when we arrived in Hawaii it was paradise in more ways than one.
We went to Oahu which has Honolulu (the capital city) on it, also Oahu is famous for Pearl Harbor, Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. Oahu is the most touristy island which was a great fit for us because my husband isn't the type to lay on the beach for 8 days and not do anything so we needed other activities to do besides the obvious sunbathing. The weather was perfect for swimming, it only rained one day %26amp; that was only for like an hour in the morning.
A great website to use is www.gohawaii.com for planning and deciding which island you want to visit. Our airfare was around $1400 for the round trip; we flew US Airways which at the time was cheap but now that airline in particular nickels %26amp; dimes you for everything including soft drinks on the flight.
Hope this information helps! Have a great trip!
Go to www.sidestep.com or kayak.com and set up your airline ticket search. You can then save your search and have them email you once a day with the best prices from the various airlines and ticket agencies. I got a RT Ticket from Virginia to Honolulu for $450 this way.
I liked Maui, we stayed in Leihiana (not sure if I spelled it right). Great beaches lots to see, not too much city, but enough to go out at night. Oahu was like being in the heart of the city but with tropical weather. Too many people in Oahu for me. Maui would be my choice!
I really like Maui myself. Be sure to watch a sun rise a top the non-erupting volcano on Maui, it's beautiful.
